Tax Committee

The Regional Tax Committee is a working committee that meets three times a year and seeks to:

  • Build and maintain a good professional relationship with SARS at a regional level

  • Assist the National Committee to review, monitor and provide comment on tax legislation and practice

  • Assist SAICA members in the region in the relationship with the SARS regional office

  • Promote and support, among members of SAICA, a culture of full and proper disclosure of information to SARS

Small-Medium Practices (SMP) Forum

The objective of the SMP Forum is to identify the needs of and promote the interests of members in small and medium practices within the framework of the profession and to encourage their participation in the profession.

The SMP Forum meets quarterly and seeks to assist SAICA in the discharge of its duty to foster a culture of continuous learning in the members and associates of SAICA, to enable them to enhance and maintain their professional competence and relevance, and to implement any approved SMP practice’s project that will contribute to the maintenance and development of the professional competence of members, associates and future members.

With the assistance of district associations, the committee has the following responsibilities:

  • To ensure adequate representation of small and medium practice members on regional councils

  • To constantly monitor the needs, interests and challenges of SMP members with a view to considering and making recommendations on matters submitted to the committee, national SMP Committee, SAICA and Council

  • To constantly improve communications between SMP members by, for example, initiating and encouraging discussion groups

To encourage SMP members to comment on exposure drafts relating to:

  • Legislation (development and implementation)

  • Accounting standards (influencing the setting and implementation)

  • Auditing standards (influencing the setting and implementation) and consider and advise on the effect thereof on SMPs

  • To consider and advise on the effect on SMP members of new legislation, rules and regulations as implemented by the relevant stakeholders

  • To advise SAICA on learning opportunities appropriate and relevant to the needs of SMP members

  • To encourage SMP to undertake continuing professional development

Public Sector Forum

This forum’s role is to influence public sector stakeholders in the region and nationally in order to heighten accountability in South Africa’s public sector and to enhance professional public sector competency among SAICA members.

The forum meets quarterly and relies on a strategic plan to guide its activities. The meetings track achievements and map out strategy-related guidelines going forward. In addition, the forum receives feedback from different constituents and determines how to respond. Responses include providing guidance on documents being developed by stakeholders and communicating the feedback to SAICA’s general membership.

The objectives of the district associations are:

  • To voice the district members’ opinions at the regional council meetings

  • To arrange events and networking opportunities

  • To actively engage with local stakeholders to the benefit of SAICA and its members

The Border-Kei District Association

The association’s objective is to serve the interests of members in the Border-Kei area and surrounding area. The association’s chairman represents members in the district on the Southern Region Council and attends the Southern Region Council meetings in that capacity. Such representation serves as a means of communication between the Southern Region Council and the district association.

To achieve its objective, the committee promotes:

  • Study and education among members

  • Professional development among members

  • Social and sporting activities

  • Career awareness

  • Accountancy development

  • Networking among Members in Business

The Garden Route District

The association provides input into and aligns itself with SAICA's national mission and vision. Particular emphasis is placed on the following key objectives:

  • Liaison between members and SAICA and vice versa

  • Liaison between members and other key stakeholders, among them SARS and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University

  • Provision of member networking activities as well as relevant seminars and workshops

The ultimate objective of the committee is to deliver relevant, value-added services to all SAICA members in the Southern Cape. The committee is predominantly made up of members from small and medium firms in the Southern Cape and from members in academia.

Nelson Mandela Bay District

The association serves the interests of members resident in Port Elizabeth and surrounding area. The chairman represents members in the district on the Southern Region Council.

The Southern Region Council meetings provide a means of communication between it and the association. The committee has the following key objectives:

  • Liaising between members and SAICA and vice versa

  • Liaising between members and the other key stakeholders, for example SARS and the universities, and

  • Providing member networking activities as well as relevant seminars and workshops
