Tax Committee

The regional Tax Committee is a working committee that meets three times a year and seeks to:

  • Build and maintain a good professional relationship with SARS at a regional level
  • Assist the National Committee to review, monitor and provide comment on tax legislation and practice
  • Assist SAICA members in the region in the relationship with the SARS regional office
  • Promote and support, among members of SAICA, a culture of full and proper disclosure of information to SARS

Member in Business (MiB) Forum

The MiB Forum meets three times a year, seeks to serve the interests of members in business, and operates to support the vision, mission and overall strategy of SAICA, as amended from time to time. The forum objectives are to:

  • Enhance the value of membership through active support and promotion of the needs of members in business
  • Identify, discuss and facilitate the resolution of issues of interest and importance to members in business

Provide direction to and receive feedback from the Regional MiB structures (MiB network) so as to:

  • Facilitate engagement with stakeholders
  • Facilitate regular communication with members in business
  • Obtain feedback from and provide feedback to members in business on SAICA initiatives and matters of interest
  • Facilitate awareness of MiB network initiatives
  • Enhance the value to members in business of the MiB network
  • Actively work with the SAICA Executive and Secretariat to serve the interests of members in business
  • Facilitate and encourage members in business engagement with and involvement in the activities and structures of SAICA
  • Lobby the interests of members in business with stakeholders through the MiB network. The role is not to execute but to identify and escalate

Small-Medium Practices (SMP) Forum

The objective of the SMP Forum is to identify the needs of and promote the interests of members in small and medium practices within the framework of the profession and to encourage their participation in the profession.

The SMP Forum meets quarterly and seeks to assist SAICA in the discharge of its duty to foster a culture of continuous learning in the members and associates of SAICA to enable them to enhance and maintain their professional competence and relevance, and to implement any approved SMP practice’s project that will contribute to the maintenance and development of the professional competence of members, associates and future members.

With the assistance of district associations, the committee has the following responsibilities:

  • To ensure adequate representation of small and medium practice members on regional councils
  • To constantly monitor the needs, interests and challenges of SMP members with a view to considering and making recommendations on matters submitted to the committee, National SMP Committee, SAICA and Council
  • To constantly improve communications between SMP members by, for example, initiating and encouraging discussion groups
  • To encourage SMP members to comment on exposure drafts relating to:
  • Legislation (development and implementation)
  • Accounting standards (influencing the setting and implementation)
  • Auditing standards (influencing the setting and implementation) and consider and advise on the effect thereof on SMPs
  • To consider and advise on the effect on SMP members of new legislation, rules and regulations as implemented by the relevant stakeholders
  • To advise SAICA on learning opportunities appropriate and relevant to the needs of SMP members
  • To encourage SMP to undertake continuing professional development

Public Sector committee

This forum’s role is to influence public sector stakeholders in the region and nationally in order to heighten accountability in South Africa’s public sector and enhance professional public sector competency among SAICA members.

The forum meets quarterly and relies on a strategic plan to guide its activities. The meetings track achievements and map out strategy-related guidelines going forward. In addition, the forum receives feedback from different constituents and determines how to respond. Responses include providing guidance on documents being developed by stakeholders and communicating the feedback to SAICA’s general membership.

The objectives of the district associations are:

  • To voice the district members opinion at the regional council meetings
  • To arrange events and networking opportunities, and
  • To actively engage with local stakeholders to the benefit of SAICA and its members

District Induction Guide

Bloemfontein

The Bloemfontein District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within Bloemfontein and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the Bloemfontein District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

To achieve its objective, the association promotes:

  • Social and networking activities among members
  • Relevant seminars and workshops
  • Career awareness
  • Accountancy development

Northern Free State

The Northern Free State District Association represent the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within Northern Free State and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the Northern Free State District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

The association has the following key objectives:

  • To promote social and networking activities amongst members
  • Active engagement with members
  • To provide and promote relevant seminars and workshops

North Eastern Free State

The North Eastern Free State District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within North Eastern Free State and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the North Eastern Free State District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

The following objectives are key to the association:

  • Career awareness and promotion of the SAICA brand
  • Promoting social and networking activities among members
  • Active engagement with members
  • Providing and promoting relevant seminars and workshops

De Aar

The De Aar District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within De Aar and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the De Aar District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

The objectives of the association are:

  • Presenting and promoting relevant seminars and workshops
  • Engagement with members

Kimberley

The Kimberley District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within Kimberley and such other areas as determined by the Central Council to be within the jurisdiction of the Kimberley District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

The following key objectives were identified by the association:

  • Making a difference in the community
  • Presenting and promoting networking and social activities for members
  • Engagement with members
  • Career awareness
  • Accountancy development

Upington

The Upington District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within Upington and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the Upington District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

Key objectives of the association include:

  • Engagement with members, and
  • Presenting and promoting networking and social activities for members

Magalies

The Magalies District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within Magalies region and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the Magalies District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

Molopo

The Molopo District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within Molopo Region and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the Molopo District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

Key objectives of the association include:

  • Retention of members in smaller areas
  • Liaison between members and other key stakeholders, especially SARS and public sector entities
  • Promoting networking and social activities among members.

Klerksdorp/Potchefstroom

The Klerksdorp/Potchefstroom District Association represents the interests of the members of the Institute who are resident within Klerksdorp/Potchefstroom region and such other areas as determined by the Central Region Council to be within the jurisdiction of the Klerksdorp/Potchefstroom District Association. The representative for the district attends the Central Region Council meetings as a means of promoting communication between the Central Region Council and the district association.

Particular emphasis is placed on the following key objectives:

  • Engagement with members
  • Liaison between members and other key stakeholders, among them SARS and North-West University, and
  • Promoting networking and social activities among members
